RN-BSN online admission requirements
- Holds an active, unencumbered U.S. RN license
- Associate’s degree RN program approved by a state board of nursing
- 2.5 GPA
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or CPR certification
RN-BSN portfolio credits
OCU’s RN-BSN program is 124 credits total including 72 credits awarded for an active, unencumbered U.S. registered nurse license and up to 22 credits for portfolio experiences. These portfolio credits are awarded for professional nursing certifications or prior courses taken that were not required by the RN program where the degree was awarded.
The following items are acceptable forms of portfolio experiences:
- 45 continuing education units (CEUs) from an accredited source in nursing
- Minimum three years of full-time RN employment
- Nursing Skill Certifications
- Prior courses taken that are not required by the associate’s degree RN program where the degree was awarded
Each 3 credit-hour course will count as one item in the portfolio. CEUs and nursing skill certifications must be within the past five years.
If a student doesn’t meet 22 credits of portfolio experiences they may meet the requirement by enrolling in additional electives courses.

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Admissions Information

MSN online admission requirements
- Holds an active and unencumbered registered nurse licensure
- BSN from a nationally accredited nursing program
- RN-MSN students must have a bachelor’s degree in any field
- Undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher or prior completion of a master’s degree in another field
- Completion of a course in Health Assessment
- This course will be offered online by OCU and is not required for admission, though must be taken in the first term after admission, if necessary
MSN online application materials
- Resume/CV
- Personal statement speaking to your interest in pursuing an MSN, career goals, and other relevant information
- Two professional references from employers, coworkers or nursing school faculty members that can attest to your commitment to nursing and ability to complete the program, especially as an online learner
- Official transcripts from all previously attended institutions

Additional Information for International Applicants
International applicants seeking an F1 visa are not eligible for OCU’s nursing programs. Naturalized U.S. citizens, immigrants with permanent residence status, and international students from non-English speaking countries seeking admission to the RN to BSN or MSN Online need to demonstrate English proficiency in one of the following ways:
For RN to BSN
- A passing score on the NCLEX-RN.
For the MSN
Minimum scores indicated on any of the following examinations:
TOEFL-Internet Based Test (contains spoken English test):
- Total score: 80
- Speaking Sections score: 20
International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
- Speaking: 7.0
- Other sub-bands: 6.5
